It’s a scale opportunity

August 2016 – In early 2016 something remarkable happened in the world of communications – the number of global monthly active users of the top four messaging apps overtook the top four ‘traditional’ social media monthly active users. The graphic below, which was shared extensively at SXSW in March 2016, got us thinking about what is happening in this space in Australia. So we are pleased to share the first significant piece of research about how Australians are using messaging apps.

That’s the global trend, here are the basic vital stats about the scale of messaging app uptake in Australia today. There are currently over 10.5 million messaging app users in Australia, with 3.4 million of those using them as their primary form of contact.

As you can see, this is a scale opportunity for marketers. Better still, Facebook is keen for brands to build value added services on their platform. It just requires imagination and a customer service mentality. This is NOT the world of paid advertising. It’s a world we call Conversation Marketing.
