About Datafication

Datafication is part of The Works' continued commitment to understanding how the Australian social media landscape works. We do this to have a real understanding of what's happening online, to be able to access fact-based insights that are based on Australian data, and to be able to better inform marketers around the use of the channel.

Data has been collected by creating geographical boundaries over Australian cities. Any Instagram image geotagged within this boundary is collected and analysed. Please note; any images set to private, not within our geographical boundaries or not geotagged are not captured and analysed.

The analytical tool used to collect images uses the Instagram API but is not endorsed or certified by Instagram.

Three million images have been collected since 30 July 2010 across Australia. This has helped us uncover never-before-seen trends and insights into Australian Instagram use. It's important to note we only store data and only the most popular images displayed.
